It's already a long time I was thinking about creating a small website about my chinchillas, actually since I've got them, so that's around 2 years now... My first attempt was last year, where I tried a CMS software called Exponent CMS. Unfortunately I quickly got disappointed because that CMS is quite new and has a lot of small problems, making it quite painful to create a nice website. Now in April 2008, I thought I may check this CMS again, unfortunately it's still not convenient enough for me. Luckily a friend of mine, Sam, came up with the name of Drupal and I thought I might give it a try. So far so good, I installed it, added some extra fancy modules and customized it for my ideas and here I was ready to enter some real content about my funny pets.
 
I forgot the mention the most important aspect of a website: its domain name. Actually I wanted a good domain name and as you surely know it is real hard work nowadays to find a free domain name which still means something with the .com top level domain. I could simply just have got a .ch domain but .com is still cheaper and nicer in my opinion. I had quite a long time thinking about some domain name and had a few ideas but all of them were already gone. Then I thought about something really simple and came up with "My chinchilla", unfortunately mychinchilla.com is gone (it's a redirect on a good german forum about chinchillas). So I though, well I have more than one chinchilla so let's check in plural with mychinchillas.com and lucky me: it was free! I was so happy about it that I bought mychinchillas.net and mychinchillas.info too.
 
My aim with this website, apart from presenting my chinchillas, is to let the world know how special and fun these small south american rodents are. Each of them has their very own character and it is fascinating to watch their behaviour or simply how they just play with each other. In the future I would like to enhance this website with maybe some interesting articles if I get enough time for it. My next plan would be to install a webcam and display live my chinchillas on Internet. Right now I've only got the domain name, which I already reserved and parked, this would be www.chinchillawebcam.com. 
 
If you managed to read so far, I guess you are wondering who I am... Well I am a 27 years old Swiss and British student living in Switzerland and studying biology at the University of Basel. When I am not at the university or studying I am usually working part time as a freelancer for different companies in the IT and scientific branch. With the little time that's left over I try to relax and enjoy life.
